Yes. For the fully credentialed special education holder, a waiver may be issued for one year only in each added authorization area. However, the individual who has been issued a waiver in one of the specific added authorization areas cannot qualify for a waiver in the full specialty area. For example, an individual who held a waiver in autism cannot get a subsequent waiver in moderate/severe disabilities. An intern may earn the waiver in one-year increments but must complete a minimum of 6 semester units in the added authorization for the renewal. Waivers are issued at the request of an employing agency.
